Abstract:

The importance of the equipment and secondary systems in seismic design and performance evaluation is well recognized and has been the subject of many studies. In all of these studies, earthquake is considered as a single component, and in most of them the primary system is considered as shear building. Most attention has been concentrated on the response of secondary system and its response spectrum. In this paper, the transfer function for absolute acceleration of the secondary system is obtained. The squared modulus of transfer function relates the power spectral density function of the input (excitation) to the output (response), which is useful in the study of the various dynamic parameters of the system. In addition to transfer function, the autocorrelation and power spectral density function of absolute acceleration of the secondary system are obtained. Earthquake is considered as a multi-component system and the necessary formulation is developed for the calculation of these functions as well as the critical angle with and without interaction between the two systems. The damping of the system is considered as proportional in the decoupled analysis, and nonproportional in the coupled analysis. The formulation developed has been illustrated by considering a ten-story torsional builing. Various parameters such as eccentricity, correlation between components, tuning interaction and nonproportional damping are studied. Results show that eliminating the effect of multicomponentness of earthquake can cause large errors especially at large eccentricities. Keywords: transfer function, Random vibration, secondary systems, critical angle, interaction, nonproportional damping

Evaluating of Relative and Absolute Cumulative Input Energy Time History subjected to Forward Directivity Earthquakes

In this article, to study the effect of pulse-type near-fault earthquakes on the seismic demands of steel moment frames, 15-story 2D-frame was analyzed under the influence of 20 near-fields with forward directivity effect and 2 far-field records. The relationship between Effective Cyclic Energy, ECE and displacement demands, velocity and hysteretic curve of SDOF systems in two near- and far-fau...

O-5: Preparation of Multi-Component Drug Delivery Systems

Background: Despite global interest, the development of single step processes for the preparation of effective drug delivery systems still faces numerous challenges. There is great demand for processing methods that are efficient, flexible, scalable and economical for the generation of wide range of encapsulated structures. Over the past few decades, electrohydrodynamic (EHD) processing has rec...

Deformation Transfer to Multi-Component Objects

We present a simple and effective algorithm to transfer deformation between surface meshes with multiple components. The algorithm automatically computes spatial relationships between components of the target object, builds correspondences between source and target, and finally transfers deformation of the source onto the target while preserving cohesion between the target’s components. We demo...

evaluation of coupled- shear walls subjected to near-field earthquakes

coupled -shear walls are one of lateral load resisting systems in high and medium rise reinforced concrete buildings. the lateral structural response is exactly dependents on the shear walls behavior; therefore these elements must response well whenundergodifferent load conditions. the structures located in near-source region behave differently compared to those in near-source sites when subjec...

MULTI FRACTURE/DELAMINATION ANALYSIS OF COMPOSITES SUBJECTED TO IMPACT LOADINGS

A combined finite/ discrete element method is presented for modelling of composite specimens subjected to dynamic/impact loadings. The main task is set on developing an algorithm for simulation of potential bonding and debonding/delamination phenomena during impact or general dynamic loading conditions. In addition, full fracture analysis can also be performed. The proposed approach adopts a ge...
